Girls Basketball holds strong against 6A Public Competition in Baytown Lady Gander Tipoff Classic
The girls' basketball team continues to take on the best competition they can find in the state of Texas. After splitting a pair of home games (Loss to Hitchcock 38-46, Win over Salt & Light 50-23), the girls were invited to play in the Baytown Lee Lady Gander Tipoff Classic in the top bracket with three of the top 11 ranked teams in the state of Texas: #1 ranked (Desoto), #5 ranked (Summer Creek), #11 ranked team (Cedar Hill).
The girls fell in the opener to Desoto on day one but bounced back to defeat Round Rock Westwood (6A public) on day two 46-29. The Lady Vikings were led by junior Mila Rossini's 20 points (4/5 80% from three), 6 rebounds & 5 steals, and senior Elizabeth Walton's 15 points, 6rebounds & 3 steals. Senior Amina Djibrine Sy added 5 points, and senior Margaret Davis and junior Morgan Isenberger each added a 3-pointer in the win, clinching a spot in the consolation bracket finals.
In the final game, against Westfield High School (6A public), the girls played well, holding a 5-point lead at the half, before falling late, 50-43. Walton would lead the way with 15 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals, while Rossini added 13 points and 4 rebounds. Djibrine Sy added 5 points and 11 rebounds, sophomore Gabi Saiz had 6 points, and freshman Cyra Narahari added 3 points.
After the tournament ended, the team each went on their way to their class trips before getting a much-needed break. Upon return, the girls will host Lutheran North on Tuesday, November 29th, before heading to Corpus Christi for the next tournament, the Leta Andrews Battle on the Bay, December 1st-3rd.
