Lady Vikings Basketball Bring it Home!
It has been over 30 years since a Houston area girls basketball team won the State Championship in the largest classification of TAPPS. The Village Lady Vikings Basketball team snapped that streak and brought the State Championship back to Houston. It is the first TAPPS 6A team State Championship in school history. The Lady Vikings defeated Plano Prestonwood, 75-48, to put an exclamation point on a tremendous season. Tymberlin Criswell led the team in scoring with 18 points. Aiken Semones made four three-pointers and had 16 points. Emily Dogbatse, the lone Senior, had a big time performance. Dogbatse had 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Freshman RyLee Grays was a force defensively, while also adding 9 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. Sydney Ward had 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Jada Malone made an impact all over the court, scoring 11 points, to go with a team-high 5 assists, and 8 rebounds. The Lady Vikings kept with their theme of playing team basketball, by racking up 17 assists in the game. Defensively, the Lady Vikings stifled Prestonwood, holding them to 31% shooting and forcing 17 turnovers. Coach Doug Brotherton is excited to see the TAPPS 6A State Championship returning to The Village School, "This is such a special accomplishment for all of our players. Not just our current players, but all of our former players that established the foundation of our program. I am so happy for everyone involved, the wonderful families in our program, and the entire Village Vikings community. A lot of people have a part in this State Championship and it is so exciting to bring it back to Houston."
