Village School appoints a new head coach for the swimming team
Hello Vikings!
I hope everybody is well! It is a pleasure to introduce myself as your new Head Swim Coach.
First, a little bit about myself; I am a Texas Native, married with two daughters( 3yrs and eight months), love the outdoors, and have been living in Katy for three years. I have been a swimmer my entire life. My mother taught summer swim lessons, and I learned to swim as a baby. This was followed by; years of summer league, Clear Creek high school swimming/polo, club swimming, one year of Swimming and Water Polo at the University of the Pacific, and finally playing club water polo while I was at Texas A&M. WHOOP!
While at A&M, I studied Biology, worked in a Neurobiology lab, and went to football games! I graduated with a B.S. in Biology and a Master's in Biotechnology. After college, I worked at a small biotech company in The Woodlands, Baylor, and MD Anderson in the Med Center.
I began my coaching career with the A&M water polo team. After I graduated, I coached part-time for a club water polo team in Houston. When that team split up, I started the Viper Pigeon water polo club in 2009. I had so much fun coaching that I wanted to make it my full-time job, and I transitioned to teaching. I started my coaching career at Lamar High School, and I was there for four years and Head Swim Coach for the last two of those years. I then took the Head Coach job at Stratford High School.
My swim career influenced my coaching methods. I had a lot of success my senior year of high school with sprint training (50 free record holder for 20 years), and I have been working on a hybrid system for the last couple of years at Lamar HS and Stratford. Going fast is fun, and the goal is Going Fast in February!
I am excited to make the move to The Village School! I have heard great things about the school and can't wait to meet my new team in person.
Regards,
Coach Thomas
