Brenham Hillacious Invitational Meet Recap
On Saturday, the Viking harriers traveled to Brenham, TX to run the infamous Brenham Hillacious Invitational. Deemed one of the toughest courses in Texas, the Village runners got to actually run hills, something we don't have much of here in Houston. The Boys Varsity, coming off of last week's win at the Second Baptist Invitational, chose to run against the big boys in Division 1. 311 runners competed, some from schools with over 3000 students(the winner, Klein HS, 4000 students). Captains Matias Cattani, Bram Satter, and Kaushal Patel led the team to 13th place out of 32 teams, a remarkable outcome. They also beat out District rival St. Thomas setting up an exciting head-to-head showdown at Districts on October 10th. Additional scorers were Sebastian Magana and Tim Tjalma.
The Girls Varsity was again led by team captain Doris Mikulek, finishing a strong second to Ellie Catron of Woodlands Christian. The girls team struggled a little on the hills but finished 9th of 15th. Varsity scorers were Nina Moynet, Harleen Bhatia, Antonia Krueger, and Isabela Blanco. This week's St. Thomas' Episcopal Invitational should treat them much better.
In the JV races, Freshman Derin Seeborg led the boys team while Freshman Zoe Ponthier led the girls.
