Varsity Cross Country State Meet Recap from Coach Mastro
On Monday, October 30th, The Village School's cross country team's season came to an end in Waco, TX at the 2017 TAPPS State Championships. The District 3 Champion boys team, comprised of 6 seniors and one sophomore, came into the race ranked third in state, behind Antonian College Prep and El Paso Cathedral. In what was probably the closest finishing group of 4 teams in TAPPS history, the Viking harriers finished 4th, a mere 18 points and 27 seconds behind winner Antonian. A heartbreaking finish but highlighted the strength of this team as 2 weeks of training were lost due to Hurricane Harvey. The team was led by captain Alex A-E, medaling in 3rd place. Other medalists were Ben A in 5th and Kaushal P in 15th.
The Girls Varsity team, having finished a solid 4th at Districts, struggled to a 12th place finish. Perennial favorite Ursuline Academy from Dallas dominated the meet with 40 points with District rival St Agnes finishing 2nd with 77 points. Doris M led the Vikings with a 29th place finish out of 120 runners.
This year's cross country team will graduate a large amount of runners. Alex A-E, Ben A, Chris B, Melanie D, Leo G, Eduardo G, Rebekah H, Mack H, Reshmi P, Federico R, Nina R, and Marco S have been the heart and soul of this great team and will be sorely missed!
