Varsity Girls Soccer Advance in District Tournament- On to State!
The Lady Vikings soccer team competed in the first round of the TAPPS district tournament against St. Pius. Our team came out with another great performance and was able to push through adversity and win in a penalty shootout!
Our goal came off a set piece when Gabby B. struck a ball from 40 yards out and placed it over the defensive line and bounced just inside the box with Ainara R getting an initial touch on the ball and Aniek V. putting the finishing touch on the goal.
St. Pius came back in the second half and tied the game midway through half. After regulation the game went in golden goal overtime! Neither team scored after two 10-minute halves and the game went into a penalty shootout. Nicole C. came up huge and saved three penalty shots while Gabby B, Ainara R, and Rebekka H finished their penalties and we won 3-2 in penalty kicks.
With this win, the girls have qualified for the state tournament and will be playing in the quarterfinals with hopes of advancing in the district tournament and having a better seed in the state tournament.
