Village Girls Earn 20th Win
The Vikings withstood the Crusader invasion and came out on top to move to 20-9.
A tense evening came to an emphatic end Wednesday as Senior Emily Zaccardo drilled a corner three to push the Vikings' lead to 39-32 with 2:28 remaining in the fourth quarter. Coach Cantwell, unphased by the Village bench eruption that followed the dagger shot, looked on calmly as the team made their free throws to push the score to a 42-32 final, closing out their 20th win of the season. The ladies' gritty win over district opponent and TABC Private School 6A #8 Concordia Lutheran moves the #10 Vikings to 20-9 overall and 4-1 in district play.
Senior Mila Rossini led all scorers with 22 points, hitting five three-point shots, while grabbing seven rebounds, four steals, and adding three assists.
Sophomore Shaniya Williams added 11 points, eight rebounds, and two steals. Williams' night, though, was punctuated by two thunderous blocks.
Zaccardo added six points and grabbed five rebounds, while sophomore Cyra Narahari contributed three points, seven rebounds, and four assists in the win.
The Vikings continue district play on the road beginning this Saturday, January 20th as they travel to Kinkaid to take on the Falcons at 1:00 PM before traveling to St. Agnes at 6:00 PM on January 23rd and St. Pius X at 6:00 PM on the 26th. The Vikings return home on Tuesday, January 30th to take on Incarnate Word Academy in the annual Vikings vs. Cancer game.
