The Village girls basketball team showed dominance in their third tournament of the season.
The Village girls basketball team won the 5th Annual Lady Bronco Invitational held at Bay Area Christian School in League City, TX this weekend. The tournament win marked the program's first Bronco Invitational win since the 2019-2020 season.
In the tournament opener, the Lady Vikings defeated Pasadena First Baptist 45-22 behind 25 points from senior Mila Rossini and 15 points from sophomore Shaniya Williams. Sophomore Cyra Narahari added five points, while senior Morgan Isenberger added a free throw and freshman Sophie Zheng made her varsity debut!
In the second game, the Lady Vikings defeated Houston St. John's 58-28 to win Pool A and clinch a spot in the gold bracket. Rossini once again led the way, scoring a game-high 28 points (six rebounds, six assists), while Williams added 12 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists. Narahari added eight points, while seniors Emily Zaccardo and Morgan Isenberger scored eight and two respectively.
In the tournament semi-finals, the Lady Vikings took on Salt & Light where Senior Emily Zaccardo led the way with a game and career-high 24 points, knocking down 6-8 3-point attempts. Rossini flirted with a triple-double finishing with nine points, eight assists, and seven rebounds. Williams added nine points and seven rebounds, Narahari five points, Isenberger four points, senior Daniella Oyewole two points and junior Madeline Yeh added a free throw.
In the championship game, the Lady Vikings took on the host Bay Area Christian, a team that had previously defeated Village 45-32 a little over two weeks ago. It was a battle from the tip, but the Lady Vikings pulled away late, breaking a 44-44 tie with a Cyra Narhari free throw with a little over three minutes left. After a defensive stop, Shaniya Williams found Morgan Isenberger for a quick layup to give the Lady Vikings a 47-44 lead. Following another defensive stop, Mila Rossini drained a three on a baseline out-of-bounds play to take a 50-44 lead. As the game neared the finish, Rossini and Williams combined to seal the game at the free throw line.
At the end of the tournament, the Vikings went 4-0 winning by an average of nearly 19 points. The team was also rewarded by having two players named to the All-Tournament team (Rossini and Williams).
The Lady Vikings now stand 14-4 on the season and look forward to the Aggieland Invitational (12/27-12/29) before opening district play at home against St. Pius X on Friday, January 5th.
