A Hot Start
A recap of the Village Track & Field team's results at the Rosehill Christian Invitational.
The Viking Track & Field team got out of the blocks fast on Saturday as the Girls took 8th and the Boys finished first overall to open the 2024 track season! The meet saw Village medal in 12 total events, taking home gold in six of those events.
On the track, Colin Nguyen dominated both the 800-meter dash and 1600 meter, while Rohan Takkar secured 1st place in the 3200 meter. The Boys 4x100 meter and 4x200 meter relay teams (Nicholas Scholl, D'Myllion Jones, Arshia Farhadinia, and Boluwatife Ekun), and the Boys 4x400 relay team (Mark Tripulskyi, Nguyen, Raghav Sehgal, and Takkar) each finished with a silver medal. Scholl, Farhadinia, Tobenna Anene, Saxon Meznarich, Ashwin Rao, and Lam Nguyen also exhibited great effort with top 10 race finishes.
Where the meet was truly won, however, was the field. Village owned the field events, winning an astonishing three gold, two silver, and three bronze medals. In the throwing events, Caleb Barnes took home the gold in both shot put and discus, setting personal records in both events, while Phillip Masick placed second and third respectively. Nina Bhakta also secured a pair of medals placing second in discus and third in the shot put.
