Boys Soccer Head to the Playoffs
State Champions Village Boys Soccer head to playoffs to start their bid for a back-to-back championship. "It was a year ago at this time that our momentum shifted, and with some tactical changes and fantastic chemistry, we started our drive for the championship," says Coach Ansari. "We defeated St. Pius in our last district game 6-2, but even though it was the last game of the season, it felt like a new beginning to our team. Finishing third in the district, we were clearly not favored to win. Still, we overcame obstacles with focus, hard work, and the strong belief that "we can," we never looked back, defeating 5-time state champions Central Catholic 3-1, decisively in the quarterfinals. And the rest was history as we ended our State Championship drive in Austin with a 2-0 win over Forth Worth Nolan Catholic."
"This year has so much resemblance to last year. Eight seniors have graduated, lost several players to injuries (at one point, our injured list grew to eight players!), and some disciplinary issues affected our chemistry. But, we finished the league strong with a back-to-back victory, again winning our last game vs. St. Pius. Players are better focused, some tactical adjustments have been made, and even though one of our best players, Alvar Repiso, is out for the season, we are ready to take the challenge of Repeating!"
