8th Grade Boys Soccer are HJPC Champions!
February 7, 2018
The 8th grade boys soccer team completed its season on Thursday, February 1st, as HJPC champions! We faced Kinkaid in the championship match. We found our rhythm early as Sebastian M. scored a banger in the fourth minute! Team play was prevalent, as it had been all season, with selfless passes and circulation of the ball. Playing patiently and with focus, we went to halftime 1-0 with little adjustment required. In the second half, Ian H. gave us some breathing room with a nice goal that was slotted past the keeper in the 47th minute. Kinkaid, however, had an answer in the 54th minute with a beautiful header to cut our lead in half. The Vikings responded with two goals in the final two minutes by Eliot G. and Sebastian M.! The team stormed the pitch in elation as the final whistle blew. What a great feeling!
We would not have been as successful as we were without the contributions of every student-athlete on the team. Each individual put forth excellent effort and dedication throughout the course of the season. I would like to thank the student-athletes for a season to remember. I would also like to thank the parents for their unconditional support. Whether they supported us in the stands on a cold, late night, or provided pre-game snacks for the team, we certainly appreciated all that you did for us!
The team finished the season with a conference record of 10-1 and a goal differential of +51. Fifteen different student-athletes scored and assisted this year, backed by an excellent defense and skilled goalkeepers. I wish these young men all the best in their future endeavors!
