Village Boys Earn a Big Win in District Opener
The Vikings win a shootout against Central Catholic on a career night for Evan Cochran.
The Village Boys Basketball team moved to 1-0 in district play Friday night thanks largely to an outstanding effort by Junior Evan Cochran. It was a career night for Cochran as he finished with an astonishing 40 points and led the Vikings to a 72-62 win over the Central Catholic Buttons. Cochran's performance even earned him a nod as one of the Houston Chronicle's Top Performers of the weekend.
The contest began with the accelerator pinned to the floor as both teams ended the first quarter at 22 points apiece. Though, after a 14-8 second quarter dominated by Village, the game firmly swung in the favor of the Vikings. The Buttons wouldn't see the lead again as Village would outscore Central Catholic in each of the remaining three quarters.
The Vikings were led by Cochran (40 Pts, 80% FT% 10 Reb), Sophomore Charlie Church (9 pts, 43% 3-pt), and Senior Jesse Imemba (9 pts, 14 Reb, 2 Stl, 4 Blk). Scoring was also added by Myles Herbert (6 pts), Walton Kunu (4 pts), Gene Hur (3 pts), and Roman McBean (1 pt).
The Vikings, unfortunately, fell to 1-1 in district play against Antonian on Saturday but look to rebound on Tuesday, January 23rd when they travel to Concordia Lutheran at 7:30 PM, and again on Friday, January 26th when they host St. Pius X in the VAC at 7:30 PM.
