Tough Schedule Preparing Vikings for District Play
The Village Vikings Boy's Basketball Team has faced a very challenging non-district schedule early on this season. The Vikings have faced 6 Top 10 state ranked teams in various state rankings polls in their first 11 games of the season. The Vikings also face the largest public school in Nevada with Coronado High School traveling to Houston in January to face the Vikings. The Vikings also face one of the top teams in Florida in North Broward Prep in February along with playing in a Pasadena ISD Tournament in late December.
In playing one of the toughest non-district schedules in school history, Coach Johnson feels it will help prepare the Vikings for district play. "We wanted to challenge our team early on playing some of the best teams in Texas and around the country to help prepare us for a very competitive district league. In playing great competition and very well coached teams early on, it will only help us get better and prepare us some a very tough distract league. To help our program grow, prepare us for district play, and help our team get better we want to continue to have our team face a very challenging non- district schedule every year."
Senior Guard, Jaylen Williams (24.5 points per game), have led the Vikings so far this year. Jaylen Williams and Timi ToluOgunkoy also share the team lead with 6.1 rebs per game. Junior Guard, Trace Boling, leads the team with 3 double doubles.
Coach Johnson has been very pleased with the team's progress and is very excited about the programs future, "I have been very impressed our teams attitude and effort so far this year. I love our teams competitive spirit and toughness they have developed. We continue to make progress and get better every day. We are very excited for district play and for our future as 9 underclassman on our roster are receiving valuable playing time that will benefit our program this year and in the future."
