The Boy’s Basketball Team Starts Little Vikings Basketball Reading Program
The Varsity Boy's Basketball program has started the Little Vikings Reading Program to help promote reading with Elementary Students at The Village School. Over the last month, the Varsity Boy's Basketball Team has spent over 20 hours reading to preschool through 3rd grade students at The Village School in classroom and in small group reading settings.
The goal of the program is for our varsity basketball players to help promote reading to elementary students, provide mentorship, and to bring our elementary school and high school communities together.
Varsity Boy's Basketball Head Coach Andy Johnson has been very pleased with the start of the Little Vikings Reading Program, "It has been a lot of fun to watch our student athletes work with and read to the elementary kids. Our student athletes are definitely having a lot of fun, learning how to be a mentor, helping to promote reading with elementary students, and having a positive impact on kids."
Varsity Boy's Basketball Senior Captain Jaylen Williams has really enjoyed the Little Vikings Basketball Reading Program. "I really like the reading program we've started, it's a good chance to connect with the younger students that look up to us;" says Jaylen Williams.
The Little Vikings Basketball Reading Program will continue this whole year with the goal of our basketball student athletes reading over 100 hours to the elementary students!
