Village Boy's Basketball Trusting the Process!
The Vikings have been hard at work preparing for what could be a very special season. The 2018-2019 Village Boy's Varsity team will feature 10 new players led by our 3 seniors Jaylen Williams, Timi ToluOgunkoy, and K'Shon Thomas. The Vikings also have added 5 new juniors to the roster in Trace Boling, Adrian Maduafokwa, Eyitomaye Mojuetan, Emilio Cano, and Osahon Mike-Irabor. Jo'Qwan West and Trajan Lewis will lead our freshman class. Junior Earving Wilson and Sophomore Tristan Abueg will also return from last year's roster.
"We are extremely excited about this group! Our players have been All In since day one working very hard and buying into our culture of "nothing given, everything earned" and focusing on "The Team, The Team, The Team." We have a very versatile, athletic, tough, and competitive team that has a chance to have a special season!" says Coach Johnson.
In line with our program culture and identity of "nothing given, everything earned," The Boy's Varsity Basketball Team endured a 3 week boot camp that included 150 yard and 200 yard timed sprints on the football field, on the floor skill work, weight room work, and speed and conditioning work in the swimming pool. Boot Camp definitely helped to bring the team together and helped prepare the team for the season according to Senior Post player Timi ToluOgunkoy, "Its been real hard. It's made us closer. It's hasn't been easy. We've had to dig deep for each other a lot. I think it's made us a lot closer and it's made us better in preparation for the season." Our players have also put on an average of 6 lbs per player in our strength and conditioning program since the school year began.
The Vikings will face one of the toughest non-districts schedules in program history that will test them early and help prepare them for a very challenging district schedule.
"We have put together an extremely challenging schedule that includes some of the best national and local high schools in the country that will help prepare us for district play. We will face the largest public school in Nevada who will have multiple division I players in Coronado High School and Florida powerhouse North Broward Prep at the Village School. We will also play local state ranked powerhouses Westbury Christian and Secondary Baptist. The Vikings will also play in 4 big name local tournaments which includes The Houston Christian Tournament, The Greater Houston Tip-Off Classic, The Cypress Christian Tournament, and the Pasadena ISD Tournament," said Coach Johnson.
Senior Captain, Jaylen Williams, is very excited about the Village Vikings season, "we're a very close knit team that has fun together but once we're on the court it's all business. We work extremely hard and enjoy playing together. We are excited to see where we can take it this season."
Through trusting the process of hard work, focusing on our 3 core values of positive attitude, relentless effort, and competition fueled by toughness, the Village Vikings Boy's Basketball team is building a championship culture working towards a great season! The Vikings open their season, at home, on Tuesday, November 6th. They will take on CHSM at 7:00pm.
