Varsity Football Wins the Season Opener
The Village Vikings varsity football team opened with a 22-12 win over Tomball Christian, in front of a great crowd. The Vikings never trailed in the game, after opening up the scoring with an 18-yard run by Jon S. The Vikings defense put up a dominant first half, shutting out the Warriors. In the 2nd quarter, the Vikings stretched their lead to 16-0, on a 9-yard touchdown pass from Kaelin R to Khash E. The final scoring play for the home team was an explosive 39-yard run, where the offensive line opened a hole, and Kamsi E did the rest. Kamsi paced the Vikings ground attack, with 93 rushing yards. The Warriors cut the lead to 22-12, with just under five minutes remaining, but senior Max P came up big. He made a tackle in space, on the the two-point conversion, before recovering the onside kick attempt. Those two plays sealed the win, as the Vikings move to 1-0 on the season. The next game is Friday night, at home, against Bryan St. Joseph Catholic. Last year, the Vikings beat St. Joseph Catholic 34-22, but Coach KB expects a tough test.
"We are happy with the first game. We learned a lot about our team, and will spend the week cleaning up some things in different areas. It was a good start to the season. St. Joseph Catholic has a new coach, and will pose some different challenges. We need all of our Village community out to support on Friday night, at 6:00pm."
