Bio

Coach Kellar grew up in the Chicagoland area and graduated from Lake Park High School in 1982. He was fortunate to earn a scholarship to attend Northern Illinois University where he went on to become a 4-Year starter earning All-American Honorable Mention honors. He held three records as a defensive tackle which stood for 33 years and is honored to be a member of the NIU Athletic Hall of Fame and voted as a Top 100 Football Player in NIU history. In 1986, he was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts where he spent the next three seasons.

After his playing career, Coach Kellar began his 34-year coaching tenure at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. He was the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach, Assistant Football Coach, and Head Track Coach. He coached on seven State Championship Football teams, one of which ended the season as runner-up National Champions. His men’s track team was ranked 3rd nationally in 2000 while the women’s program earned a National Championship.

Coach Kellar left the College of Dupage to become the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach at Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green State University, and most recently, The University of Houston. Additionally, Coach Kellar spent nine years in the private sector with Velocity Sports Performance. In 2011, he formed his own company, Athletes Accelerated Performance, LLC where he performs consulting work with high schools and coaches, providing training for coaching staffs and program implementation.

Coach Kellar is entering his 10th year at The Village School where he is the Director of Sports Performance. Coach Kellar is most proud of his wife, Dana, who retired in 2020 after 27 years in elementary education. They have one daughter, Jacquelyn, and a granddaughter, Naomi.
