VESPYS 2018
May 15, 2018
The VESPYS athletic banquet has become a unique tradition at The Village School. This event is hosted by our athletic department each May and it is a fun way to celebrate all of the team and individual accomplishments and recognitions that we achieved this year.
The 2018 VESPYS was a special one as we hosted it in our brand new Athletic Complex. With over 300 student-athletes, parents, coaches and faculty members in attendance, the new gym was quite a fun atmosphere. Part of what makes the VESPYS so special is the red carpet treatment our athletes receive. Literally, our athletes walk the red carpet, take pictures and are interviewed on their way in.
Once the ceremony begins, we jump right into our team awards by honoring our teams and handing out awards for each sport. To break things up, we also include a Special Presentation, which always celebrates a unique accomplishment or special story from the year. This year, our varsity girl's basketball coach, Doug Brotherton, was recognized for receiving PCA's Double Goal Coach Award.
To end the night, we hand out our specialty awards for amazing accomplishments in a game, from throughout the year, and over the course of a student's high school career. These awards include: Staff Supporter Award, Strength & Conditioning Athletes of the Year, Performance of the Year, Athletes of the Year, and Exemplary Athletes of the Year. Here is our list of winners for those categories:
Staff Supporter Award: Carl Newman
Male Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year: Keagan T
Female Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year: Ana B
Male Performance of the Year: Koronje G

The 2017-18 school year brought us many special memories. Our athletes and teams worked hard and accomplished so much this year. We advanced to the State Tournament in more team sports and we had more state qualifiers than ever before. We want to thank and congratulate all of our student-athletes, parents and coaches for an amazing and memorable year.
